For everyone on the tools
Accessibility
Sparks is built to be used with a screen reader, a keyboard, a zoomed screen or a phone held in a gloved hand. Here is what that claim rests on.
What accessibility means here
Every page and every screen works without a mouse, without colour, and at twice the size.
Text can be enlarged to 200% without anything cut off; every control can be reached and worked from the keyboard, with a visible focus; nothing is said by colour alone; every image that carries meaning has words for it; the page keeps still unless you asked for motion; and the light and dark themes both meet the contrast levels below.
Conformance status
Partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA, self-assessed. No outside audit yet.

How it is tested
An automated audit of every page and screen in both themes on every change, and a person with VoiceOver.
- Every colour pair the site and the app use is checked for contrast by a script in the repository, in both themes, and a failing pair fails the build.
- Every page of the site and every screen of the app is audited with axe-core, in light and in dark, on every change.
- Keyboard navigation and reading with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, by the people who build it.
- Real phones, outdoors, including a small one at 320 pixels wide.
Known limits
Signing with a finger has no keyboard equivalent, by design; the paper route is the alternative.
- A signature is drawn with a finger or a mouse. It cannot be made from the keyboard. Anyone who cannot draw one signs on paper: the same sheet prints with a blank box beside their name.
- The attendance sheet PDF is generated on the phone with a small library of our own. It is tagged with a title and its text is real text, but it does not carry the full structure a screen reader would use to navigate a long document.
- We have not yet had the site or the app tested by people who use assistive technology every day. If that is you and you would, we would like to hear from you.
Report an obstacle
Tell us what stopped you and on which page. We answer within a month, usually within days.
Email support@sparksireland.ie, or use the contact page. Say which page or screen, what you were trying to do, and what you use to browse. If we cannot fix it quickly we will tell you how to get what you needed another way.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission can advise on your rights under the Equal Status Acts.
Anything unclear?
Ask, and we will fix the wording rather than defend it. Or email support@sparksireland.ie.
